Ūrdhva Dhanurāsana (from Tādāsana) in honor of Guruji BKS Iyengar

May my ending be your beginning.
— Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, 1918-2014

August 20 is the anniversary of the death of Yogacharya B. K. S. Iyengar. Many, myself included, owe a great deal to him. His life was devoted to Yoga. He studied, realized and shared the healing capacity of Yoga.    He brought it to the world.  His teaching made Yoga accessible to millions of people through precise instruction and progressive, systematic study of the practice of āsana (postures), and beyond.  His approach to yoga āsana allows one to explore what it means to inhabit a body, and to explore the body as a means to steady the mind, and experience the spiritual core within.

Some are aware that I was hit hard at the time of his death. Recovery was long—practice, the way forward. I’m indebted to my teacher, Manouso Manos, devoted student of B.K.S. Iyengar, for his guidance.

This practice is offered in memory of our beloved teacher, taking his words to heart: “May my ending be your beginning.” May it express gratitude to his teachings for the inspiration to look each day to see what is possible, to surpass limitations, to go beyond the known.
